Historique du Club
Durant les années 1950, l’Outaouais a connu une vague d’immigration de la part
de plusieurs gens venant du Portugal. Depuis ce temps, la communauté portugaise
de l’Outaouais est reconnue pour sa passion et amour pour le soccer. Tout au long des années 1960 et 1970, ils se regroupaient
entre amis, autant portugais que québécois, pour pratique le sport au Parc Jacques-Cartier.
Le 7 août 1974, le Centre Communautaire Portugais Amis Unis (C.C.P.A.U.) devient une association
communautaire là où est hébergée la paroisse Mission Notre-Dame de Fatima. Deux
autres groupes importants font partie de l’association; la philharmonie Notre Dame de Fatima ainsi que le Groupe de
soccer Unidos. Le groupe de soccer était composé d’équipes senior, vétérans
et féminines. Cependant, l’attention était sur l’équipe masculine
qui jouait dans la Ottawa-Carleton Soccer League (OCSL). L’équipe était
connue par toutes les équipes de la ligue comme étant un groupe de joueurs talentueux, combatifs et passionnés.
Depuis ces temps, le Groupe de soccer Unidos est un fier membre de l’OCSL et à toutes
les années, les meilleurs joueurs de la région se joignaient à l’équipe. Tout
au long des années 1980 et 1990, l’équipe Unidos était parmi les meilleurs dans le classement et remportaient aussi
plusieurs tournois et compétitions, et ce, toujours avec un esprit d’intégration envers les autres nationalités de la
région.
En 2007, les conseils d’administration
du Groupe de soccer Unidos et le Comité de Culture et Jeunesse se fusionnent pour créer le Comité Sports, Culture et Jeunesse. Celui-ci met ensuite en marche les procédures nécessaires pour devenir un club fédéré de la FSQ. En février 2007, la FSQ reconnaît le groupe de soccer comme Club de Soccer F.C. Unidos.
Aujourd’hui, le Club
compte 8 équipes seniors, soit 120 membres, qui jouent dans la Ligue de Soccer Senior de l’Outaouais. En 2009, l’équipe féminine se classe parmi les 4 meilleurs équipes du Tournoi Intl de Laval. Aussi en 2009, l’équipe Vétérans termine au haut du classement de sa division
dans la ligue OCSL. Puis, en 2007, l’équipe masculine se rend en quart de finale à la Coupe du Québec Saputo AAA.
En 2009, Unidos célèbre son
35e anniversaire en tant qu’organisation de soccer. En 2012, FC Unidos célébrera son 5e anniversaire d’existence
en tant que club fédéré, et ouvrira un nouveau terrain de soccer.
En 2009, le CCPAU organise
son 27e Festival de soccer. En 2010, FC Unidos prendra en charge l’événement pour présenter le premier tournoi national
senior dans la région de Gatineau. Des équipes de partout au Canada seront invitées pour y participer.
FC Unidos continu de promouvoir ses traditions et l’intégration des autres communautés
dans ses activités, non seulement sportives mais aussi culturelles et sociales. Sa
raison d’être demeure la même que le CCPAU.
History
of FC Unidos
The Portuguese arrived in the Gatineau region in the
50’s and ever since 1954 the passion for soccer was an identity marker for the Portuguese. Starting out as a group of
friends with other French Canadians and practicing for fun on a regular basis at Park Jacques Cartier in Hull for the first
20 years.
Across the border, in Ottawa, the Portuguese Lusitania
was founded in 1964, and the Unidos team had many heated games against the Lusitania team in the second half of the sixties.
On 7th of August 1974, the Centre Portugais
des Amies Unis (CCPAU) took official status. It was composed of the Church of Our Lady of Fatima and the Centre’s association.
At the heart of the association were three dynamic groups, the Philharmonic of Our Lady of Fatima, the Saint Peter Commission,
and the Futebol Group Unidos (GFU).
Although for many years it had men seniors, old timers
and women’s teams, the centre of attention was the men seniors, for they were known for fearsome quality players throughout
the region.
Since then, the GFC is a proud active member of the
Ottawa Carleton Soccer League (OCSL), and every year it would select the community’s best players to put in a team.
Throughout the years it always ranked in the top competitive divisions, winning many tournaments, and always with a community
spirit that integrated many other nationalities of recent arrivals to Canada.
In 2007, the community’s Youth Group, and the
GFC merged into the Youth Sports and Cultural Commission (CDCJ), and registered, for the first time, the Futebol Club Unidos (FC Unidos) with the QSF.
Since then, this federated club has increased in numbers, and
although small it has come a long way. From just one team in 2007, with a total of 21 members, it raised to 8 teams in 2009,
both sexes and averaging over 120 active and passive members.
The girl’s team made a come back after over 20
years of inactivity, and the old timers are also back and strong. In 2007 the men’s senior team made it to the quarter
finals of the Saputo Quebec Cup, and 2009 the girl’s team made it to the semi-finals in the Laval Soccer Cup.
In 2009, the organization officially celebrated 35
years, although un-officially it is about 50 years. As a federative Club with the QSF it will celebrate 5 years in 2012, when
they hope to officially open their new soccer fields.
In 2010, the FC Unidos federated its National Soccer
Tournament in Gatineau,that had been operating as a Community Festival for the past 28 years reaching a record of thousands
of participants every year, and now the only Senior Soccer Tournament in Gatineau.
FC Unidos continues to push forward this tradition
of joining all ethnicities and the use of soccer, not only for the high quality it is famous for, but also to continue the
promotion of culture and social integration. The reasons of its existence are still the same and important of the Portuguese
Community of Centre des Amis Unis.
